Health: Emgrain with Beetroot & Seaweed Collagen Oat Drink

With a busy schedule to keep up with, it's not always easy to get your dose of a healthy, balanced three meals a day. The modern day working people or even students now have an alternative choice to get their daily intake of nutrients - meal replacement drinks. It's quick, easy and satisfying.

Emgrain with Beetroot & Seaweed Collagen is an oat drink. Oat has been proven to lower blood cholesterol and reduce risk of heart disease. I'm sure many girls would be attracted to the tagline, "Dump your Fats, Gain your Health"!

Why choose Emgrain?
It contains a variety of vitamins to fulfil your daily intake
♥ Helps to reduce risk of cardiovascular diseases
♥ Helps with cholesterol, high blood pressure and blood sugar reduction
♥ Boosts metabolism rate and blood circulation
♥ Rejuvenates the skin to give off a radiant glow
♥ Sustain skin elastin and moisture retention
♥ Relieve PMS and menopausal malaise
♥ Suitable for vegetarians

Emgrain also has NO preservatives, NO colouring and NO trans fat. Emgrain has been approvd by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), US Food & Drug Administration (US FDA) and Malaysia Ministry of Health (MOH).

The main ingredients are oat bran powder, imported oat powder, beetroot (from France), brown rice, soya lecithin, calcium, aquamin S and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 & B12. The shelf life of this 500g bottle is . Once the container is opened, it is advisable to consume it within 3 months for better taste. The product should be stored in room temperature with no direct exposure to sun and should not be used to substitute any medicine to treat any conditions or diseases.

Each ingredient serves its own benefits like seaweed collagen (from England) contains aquamin which provides biavailable calcium, magnesium and trace minerals that are essential for maintaining healthy bones, digestive health & promote joint mobility.
Beetroot is my favourite vege! It is virtually fat-free, low in calories and contains betacyanin to help reduce oxidation of LDL cholesterol and protect the artery walls to reduce risk of heart disease or stroke. It also contains folic acid for normal tissue growth and is a well-known antioxidant.
Calcium is crucial in maintaining bone strength and new bone growth. Not only that, it also helps the nervous system maintin proper pressure in your arteries and regulate heart rhythm & muscle functions.
Soya lecithin are derived during the processing of soy beans. Lecithin quickens fat breakdown, boost metabolism and prevent fat build-up in the walls of your heart, brain and arteries. Not only does it lower cholesterol and prevent heart diseases, it also helps prevent memory loss.

The tub is pretty hard to open that I had to get my dad to open it for me. Once opened, there is another protective cover on top to keep the contents cool & dry. A spoon is also provided for easier measurements.

To prepare the drink, add 2 spoons (15g) of oat powder.

Add 250ml of lukewarm water. Preferably the ratio of hot to cold water should be 3:1. Surprisingly, the brown powder has now turned pink upon contact with water, due to the beetroot's colouring.

Stir or shake well before serving. I decided to use a shaker bottle because I find that it is easier in helping the powder dissolve. You can alwaays use a spoon to scoop out the undissolved powder at the bottom, which I find is quite yummy to eat haha.

Lovely in pink! The drink doesn't smell milky at all but instead smells like regular oats, with a slight hint of vegetable smell (again, this could be due to the beetroot). Do try to consume the drink ASAP cos it will tend to thicken due to the consistency of the seaweed collagen.

My verdict? I was never a fan of oat drinks or even Nestum or Horlicks. This drink has changed my perspective. It's not too sweet and has a pleasant smell. Doesn't taste "jelak" at all. I don't take breakfast normally, so this acts as a meal replacement or supplement drink for me. It's quite filling and lasts me a good 2-3 hours before lunch time. My dad has high cholesterol, I'm so going to introduce this drink to him as an alternative to normal oats drink!

You can purchase Emgrain from selected pharmacies in Johor Bahru at RM50 for a 500g bottle. Pretty reasonable if you ask me, as one bottle can last for about 3 weeks. I also spotted Emgrain being sold at a seafood restaurant I dined in during my recent trip to Desaru haha. You can also purchase the shaker from them.

Before I end, I'd just like to leave a silent prayer to those who were on board AirAsia QZ8501. Hoping and praying that the plane will be found soon and that the passengers and crew can all return safe and sound. It's always saddening to hear news like these :( It has been an unfortunate year for the aviation industry, but what we can do now is to stay strong. You'll never know what's going to happen the next moment, so cherish your life, your health everyday.

Cheers,
Carinn

Carinn x OOTD: Beach-ready

The year is coming to an end and I guess this is my last outfit post of the year? It's nothing fancy, just what I wore on Christmas at Desaru. It's an unconventional Christmas this year cos we spent it by the beach; playing in the water parks, having steamboat, line dancing at night and ended the night with fireworks and Jagerbomb shots. Really happy indeed!

Aztec-print top - Monki // Floral pom-pom shorts - Stylix // Lace cardigan - Liz Lisa (thrifted from Fashion Salad Flea) // Floral headband - Rubi // Heart-shaped sunglasses - Taobao // Flip-flops - iPanema // Tankini - Ogival

Photographer: MCY
Venue: Lotus Desaru Beach Resort

Oh, how I've missed wearing shorts out! These past few weeks I've been wearing either long pants, maxi skirts or tights just to hide the scar on my leg. It's not fully healed yet but I'm so sick of my limited wardrobe choices already. Anyway, who wears long pants to the beach?

It's a very messy outfit with clashing prints, but laidback nonetheless. Tryna go for the hippie/ flower child kinda vibe, is it working? Almost everything I'm wearing here were bought at a bargain price. Snagged the top for RM15 only during Monki's opening sales at 1U, I really love how light the material is! And that's the point of a beach outfit to me- flowy, light and carefree. I've always wanted a pair of pom-pom or lace runner shorts but could never find any that suited me cos of my skinny legs, glad I got these from Stylix for RM22 only while my headband costs RM15 only. The main point of this outfit is my cardigan which acts as a coverup when I get out from the pool. Or it can also serve as a throw-over for formal events, what a versatile piece right?

Ending the post with this candid shot which I kinda like. If you liked this outfit, do hype me on Lookbook, will ya?

If you'd like to see more, you can view my previous Carinn x OOTD post here :)

In the meantime, Happy Boxing Day and Happy New Year in advance! I hope you'll spend this holiday season with the ones you love and be blessed with joy and laughter :)

Love,
Carinn

Food: foodpanda Delivery in Johor Bahru

Have you ever been in a situation whereby you're so hungry that you could eat a whole horse, yet there's no food at home and you don't have a car to drive out? That's what always happens to me :( What more when I don't even know how to drive haha. This is why food delivery is a God-sent creation to me! But it can get boring cos it's always McD, Domino's Pizza, etc.. Time to spruce things up a little!

foodpanda is here to save the day! They are not a new service and I've actually blogged about how to order via foodpanda's mobile app before. After being in the business for so many years, foodpanda is now garnering more popularity and their service has also improved from the last time I tried it. Here are some of the reasons why ordering via foodpanda is AWESOME!

1) You don't have to drive out - saves petrol, parking fees & time!
This is especially useful for times like these when petrol fees aren't the most affordable. A minimum time period of 1 hour should be given to the restaurant to prepare food and for delivery, so try and order as early as you can!

2) More food choices!
Now you're not limited to only burgers and pizza.. Restaurants and eateries working with foodpanda also includes Chatime, Sushi Q, Taang Shifu, Kenny Rogers, 7-11 and many, many more, depending on your location.

3) foodpanda is available almost anywhere in the world!
I've checked, they're available in more than 20 countries! There are more than 3000 restaurants to choose from too, so you don't have to worry about starving.

4) You can order food from your mobile devices or PC, anytime, anywhere!
As long as you have Internet connection and some cash, ordering is definitely a breeze as it only requires 3 easy steps. I've tried ordering on both PC and phone, and I think both are equally simple. There is also the option of paying online or COD which makes it convenient for customers.

5) foodpanda frequently offers promotional deals!
Check your emails often cos foodpanda always sends promotional vouchers or free delivery deals in your area! This way, you get to save even more, even after taking into account the delivery or service charges. Sometimes the food you order via foodpanda may be even cheaper than dining outside at the restaurant itself!

************************************************

Interested to see how I spent my RM100 foodpanda voucher, courtesy of The Butterfly Project?
Since the previous foodpanda delivery that I tried was in KL and was for groceries only, I shall test out the delivery service this time in JB. I ordered on my mobile the previous time, now let's put the website to the test. The food that I ordered was on preorder basis (as the restaurant was closed) so it was ordered the day before. For preorder, there is always a fear of not getting your food on time, or not getting your food at all!

1) Log on to www.foodpanda.my
Select your city, area and click FIND RESTAURANTS.

Check out the list of restaurants I have in my area! Admittedly, it was quite late when I ordered so most of the restaurants were open for preorder basis only. This is an improved function to me as previously, it would only show that the restaurant was closed, without indicating the operating hours at all.

2) Select the restaurant of your choice.
I chose this Italian restaurant that my family loves to dine at. I was surprised that they actually deliver to my area!  There are many categories to choose from on the extensive menu.

After you've selected your food, it will appear on the sidebar with the collated amount due for payment and you can proceed to the next step!

3) Review your Order.
Do take into account that you can add on your comments and double check the payment before confirming your order. This is also the place to key in any voucher codes that you have! Yes, a delivery fee,15% service fee and 6% govt tax do apply so I think it's better to order more to make the delivery fee more worth it? Haha. For normal orders, the food usually takes 1 hour to arrive, based on my previous experience. For preorders, there are a number of delivery times to choose from so choose the time wisely so you do not go hungry!

4. Place your Order!
If you have not signed up before with foodpanda, this is the time to do so. After keying in your details, there is an option to Choose your Payment method - either via online payment or cash on delivery. When you're happy with your order, click PLACE ORDER NOW!

5. Wait for your food to arrive!
After placing your order, you will receive a confirmation email and SMS. Since my food was preordered, there's no choice but to wait till the next day for it to arrive!

************************************************

*Ding dong!*
At 1.30pm SHARP, my door bell rang. Omg I can't believe how punctual the delivery service is! We paid the remaining RM26+ on the spot and the delivery guy was on his way.

My piping hot food are here! Each are individually packed in Tupperwares or foil so the freshness and hotness of the food is retained.

Bon appetit! Here's what I chose - one appetizer and 3 mains. I'd already told my mum to take the afternoon off and not cook lunch, it'll be on me! I'm glad that with the RM100 voucher, I got enough food for the whole family. Smoked duck and salmon are all our faves so we definitely enjoyed this meal!

Truth be told, I was quite doubtful whether my food will arrive on time or not because we've have had bad experiences with foodpanda before. But not this time! The delivery guy arrived right on the dot, even my mum was surprised! The food was STILL piping hot and fresh when it arrived too. Initially, I did not receive any confirmation email and I got worried so around 11am, I emailed foodpanda with my queries and almost immediately after that, I got a call, email AND SMS about my order. Talk about efficiency!

Thank you, foodpanda for feeding my family well & through! This isn't the first time I'm using their service, and it won't be the last :)

Check out their website for a list of restaurants and start your food delivery journey too! This festive season is the best time to party, why not let foodpanda do the work for you? Don't forget to subscribe to their newsletter and LIKE them on Facebook to get the latest updates and promotions! Last but not least, LIKE the Butterfly Project Malaysia on Facebook as well for more updates on upcoming events!

Merry Christmas, in advance!

Cheers,
Carinn

Travel: [Hotel] Double Tree by Hilton, Johor Bahru

Good Monday morning to you! Don't fret if you're having Monday blues because Christmas is coming! I'm here to cheer you up with some pretty photos, taken back when I visited Double Tree by Hilton in JB. The photos are so nice, it'd be a waste not to share them right? If you're planning on finding a place to chill and grab a bite, a place for staycation or a place to host functions, this hotel has it all. You might have caught a glimpse of the photos from my previous OOTD post here :p

The Lobby

The Food Place - a cafe and eatery for quick bites and a good place for business meetings.
Is it weird that I'm obsessed with that marble counter? *.*

What we ordered for tea that day, courtesy of Grace, the marketing manager of Double Tree JB :) Honestly, the food is quite reasonably priced and not to mention, yummy too! Do try the cheesecake and XL sized chocolate shake if you have the chance.

I was impressed by how spacious the dining area was. The concept is a fusion of Western & Eastern decor.

Love these flying birds ornaments in the ceiling!

D'gio Wedding has a section there if anyone's interested.

Outdoor Patio
There is also a rooftop area for hosting wedding, events or parties. All you need are some large umbrellas cos it's super hot lol.

Tosca Dining Place

Tosca is an in-house Italian dining restaurant. I love the interior and it is lovely, suitable for dinner parties or simply date night. There are 3 private rooms for private dining, and one of them has a clear panel for diners to observe the chef at work. Tosca also serves an array of cocktail and alcohol.

Poolside

My favourite place in the whole hotel! The pool isn't Olympic-sized but it's just as gorgeous! We basically spent the afternoon just lounging by the pool (too bad we didn't bring our swimsuits!) and sipped on strawberry daiquirie which BTW, is delicious! Must-try if you're ever there. Do note that while it's a great place to take photos, only guests are allowed in the pool.

With Aud, Eunice and Edlyn!
Ending the post with some wefies that we took there. It's a great place to take photos, honestly! Especially on a good day like this. So much love for these girls :)

If you're interested to find out more about the hotel and its rates or facilities, do check out the Double Tree by Hilton website and Facebook page. Psst.. All guests are treated to a complimentary Double Tree cookie which I heard tastes amazing! Lol. For more photos, you can check out my albums here and here :)

Cheers,
Carinn
