Hair: HanBang Korean Scalp Spa by Govin Hair JB

If you've been keeping track of my InstagramFacebook or Snapchat (@carerynn), you'll know that I have recently gotten a new haircut! Well, it's just a trim and I have bangs now. Not only that, I have also done a hair treatment by HanBang Korean Scalp Spa. As you may guess from the name, the hair spa mainly focuses on doing scalp treatment and what makes it so special is the fact that only natural Korean herbs are used for the process - no chemicals involved!

HanBang Korean Scalp Spa is founded by Govin Hair Salon. This is one of the 3 outlets owned by Govin. HanBang can be easily spotted on the Ground floor of KSL City Mall and is situated just next door to Govin Hair Salon. There are many hair salons in KSL Mall, but the exterior of Govin & HanBang already looks different from other hair studios with their similar golden signboard and wooden decor that makes the place look more high-end. Love the minimalistic logo as well!

Spot the myriad of certificates on the wall!

By the way, even the shampoo, conditioner and tonic water used at HanBang are made with Korean herbs by the brand Daeng Gi Meo Ri. If you like how the products work for you, they are available for purchase at the counter. Also, for first time customers who try out their scalp treatment, you are entitled to a mini free gift which is a travel set (in sachets) of this hair range.

The first thing that I noticed when I stepped into this section of the salon is how elegant and classy it looks. I already feel much more relaxed just being in this environment. They even provide little cupboards for you to safe keep your personal belongings in! Indeed, every customer is pampered and treated like a queen as they try out this Korean No. 1 Herbal Scalp Treatment.

The 'Spa Menu' itself also looks similar to a restaurant menu XD There is only one variety of scalp treatment provided, but it can be customised to target different scalp problems. I got the Restore treatment worth RM198 that is targeted at hair loss and is suitable for normal to sensitive scalp. The package includes a 1.5 hour herbal scalp treatment and brief shoulder massage. A personalised treatment like this helps to promote hair regrowth and prevent more hair loss. FYI, the opening special price is only RM88 so now's the time to give this treatment a try!

Once seated, I was given a robe to put on and a glass of water & some magazines to read in case I get bored. Love how I get to wear a comfy robe instead of the usual plasticky shield that most salons make you wear, it's so immobile! Normally, customers are served a black glutinous rice dessert as well as it stimulates hair growth. The scalp professional, May, wasted no time in starting with my consultation and advanced scalp analysis. A computerised hair and scalp check-up was done using a device called the Pro Mobile Microscope which is used to get reaaaall close and personal to my scalp and hair follicles.

From the initial analysis, we found that my scalp is congested, causing it to be oily and have hair loss. Now, this isn't a surprise for me as I regularly complain about having an oily scalp after just 24 hours of not shampooing my hair, which is honestly a chore to do so everyday :( On top of that, I have very fine hair which makes it even more obvious when my hair is oily. I'm really hoping that this treatment can help to reduce the oiliness.

After that, I was led to the part of the salon where washing is done. Even this section looks so posh! It is at this point that I get to enjoy a deep hair and scalp cleansing with the herbal shampoo that I mentioned earlier. Surprisingly, there isn't a strong herbal scent when my hair was being washed so I'm guessing the shampoo is only mildly scented to smell like herbs. The deep cleansing process helps to balance out scalp pH level, reduce inflammation and remove dead skin cell & excess oil to prevent blockages in the hair follicles.

Next, it is finally time for the herbal mask to be applied. This is a natural remedy that is targeted for oily, itchy, dandruff-prone and sensitive scalp/ hair loss/ thinning hair. The paste is made with hot water so it feels warm on the scalp - it has to be warm to depilate dead hair follicles and dead scalp cells in order to stimulate circulation. The paste is enriched with active 100% pure oriental herbs ingredients like He Shou Wu, Radix Salviae, Radix Codonopsis & Radix Angelicae Sinesis to promote active scalp cells & revitalize hair follicles for nutrients. Cordyceps tonic is also added to improve blood circulation to boost healthier hair growth, encourages stronger roots, promotes darker colours and provides antioxidants to combat the aging process. The paste can also penetrate deep into the follicles by supplying perfect nutrients on top of purifying, stimulating and fortifying the scalp to promote fuller, thicker and healthier looking hair. Again, I don't feel that there is a strong herb scent while the mask is being applied.

My hair was then wrapped in saran wrap and a towel before steaming under the machine for 30 minutes. While this was being done, I had a chat with the scalp specialist. It is recommended to do this treatment at least once a month for maintenance. For people with hair loss problem, the treatment can also help you to regrow your hair with a customised solution.

A refreshing and rejuvenating scalp point massage was then done. (Oh ya you can see my contour here LOL XD)

After that, it was time to wash off the herbal paste with lukewarm water to seal in the nutrition. For an extra RM38, you can opt to do the Revitalise herbal hair relaxation treatment while conditioning your hair at the same time. The hair treatment was applied for 5 - 10 minutes. This time, I could finally smell a strong herbal scent which lasted about a day, I would say LOL. It's a pretty straightforward treatment, all I had to do was lie there while waiting for the treatment to seep in.

I got an awesome blowout and a simple haircut by May after that. She also spritz some herbal hair tonic which contains peppermint to encourage hair growth, it felt sooo cooling on the scalp.A shoulder massage with essential oil was also done at this stage, so relaxing! This machine was then used to help the herbs absorb into the scalp quickly and also disinfect the scalp to kill off any germs. It kept blinking red & blue and apparently, each light has a different function of its own.

Ok moment of truth. May did another scan of my scalp and this time, everything looked good even from up close! I was so amazed with the results!

As you can see, the BEFORE photo showed that my scalp was congested and there were yellow stuff (possibly oil or dirt buildup) around my hair follicle. It looked so gross.. The result of the hair treatment clearly shows that my scalp is much cleaner now and the scalp generally looked smoother too? My hair feels fresh, light & fluffy.

Thank you, May for the VIP treatment! I felt so happy the entire day now that my scalp feels so much cleaner and comfortable. While this treatment may not be up the alley of those who dislike herbal smell, it's a really effective and natural way to treat your scalp problems so I'll definitely recommend everybody to go try it! Guy or girl, whatever your hair problem is, the treatment suits everyone. Share with your friends too and go have a hair pampering session at HanBang Korean Scalp Spa!
