Beauty: THE FACE SHOP Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Series

One thing I’ve been struggling with lately is hormonal acne and it has left me with lots of acne scars on my chin and face which I’m now trying hard to get rid of. Luckily for me, I found THE FACE SHOP’s brand new Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Recovery Series for my sensitive acne skin!

After the debut of their famous Dr. Belmeur series, THE FACE SHOP (TFS) has since introduced other versions of this series for dry skin (Dr. Belmeur Repair), oily skin (Dr. Belmeur Clarifying) and now for sensitive skin as well. 'CICA' is a huge buzzword in dermo cosmetics recently and it targets long-term, instant relieve for irritated skin. The five new "family members" to join the skincare line are Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Peptide Ampouole, Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Recovery Serum, Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Recovery Cream, Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Hyaluronic Sheet Mask and Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Recovery Hand Cream. This series features a unique technology known as Skin-sync Rx.

I received the Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Peptide Ampoule, Recovery Serum and Recovery Cream. This series is unmistakablynoticeable when you see it, thanks to the signature royal blue and white colours. I started using them after CNY as my skin started breaking out more due to my unhealthy snacking habits during CNY hahaha. Let's talk a little about each product and how they work.

DR. BELMEUR ADVANCED CICA PEPTIDE AMPOULE

The first step to managing damaged skin is to soothe it. The Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Peptide Ampoule is a clear, viscous ampoule that delivers a powerful soothing and revitalising effect for the skin. Designed as a "booster" for the products that you will be using in the next step, this ampoule can be applied on its own as a pre-serum prep or added as an intensive booster together with the cream! It uses Peptide Complex to enhance skin vitality while improving damaged skin with Skin-sync Rx technology. The Peptide Complex key ingredients are:

- Argireline - a peptide with similar effects with the mechanism of Botox, to help boost collagen synthesis and improve the appearance of fine lines and fight premature aging. I went to The Face HSop store as it was my birthday month and learnt that this serum is actually quite good to use on its own, especially for more matured skin.
- LG-AQ - developed by LG H&H, this ingredients has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect and acts as a protective barrier to soothe irritated skin.
- Urea - penetrates deep into rough and dry skin to correct uneven skin texture.

I use this product as a pre-serum prep on my clean skin in the morning and at night, I mix it with the Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Recovery Cream before massaging into my face and neck. This product is very fast-absorbing and not sticky at all! I personally find the dropper tool quite a novelty, not like your typical “squeeze” type of dropper. The full royal blue and silver bottle also makes it a pretty regal addition on your dressing table. However, I find that it might be a TAD too intense for me because I usually break out from anti-aging products, which is why I’ve cut down to using this serum only 3 times a week.

DR. BELMEUR ADVANCED CICA RECOVERY SERUM

Serums come in so many forms, but this Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Recovery Serum is an ointment-like serum with an off-white colour that you dispense from a pump bottle. You can find soothing, barrier-strengthening, regenerating and firming benefits all in one bottle to continuously moisturise and care for the skin. Sensitive skin usually means that there are fine scratches on your skin’s surface so with Skin-sync Rx technology, your skin is protected.

This might just be my favourite product from the lot because of the velvety-smooth finish it leaves when you apply the serum. There is no strong scent too, which I appreciate from my skincare as I am sensitive to added fragrance. I started noticing less acne scars on my forehead too with continued use. Will update you all on my Instastories as time goes by, really hoping these annoying scars will fade soon!

DR. BELMEUR ADVANCED CICA RECOVERY CREAM

Did you know that it is important for skin to be deeply-hydrated from the inside out in order to keep acne at bay? Because my skin is considered irritated and damaged now from hormones and *ahem*, constant picking, I always find dry patches around the acne spots which makes it a pain to apply makeup. The Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Recovery Cream protects the skin from additional external aggressions to soothe fine scratches and smoothen the skin.

I use this moisturiser daily because my skin seriously needs the added hydration from within. The soft cream is easily spreadable and absorbed by the skin. So cute that there’s a small spatula given too so that you do not have to dip your fingers directly into the tub!

I should mention that I have psoriasis, a skin picking disorder where I tend to pick at dry skin on my face often. I believe this is why I am not seeing major difference in my skin, but it is getting better. I have high hopes for THE FACE SHOP Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Series as I’ve read many promising reviews from people with acne problem. I’ve also purchased the Dr. Belmeur Clarifying Foam Cleanser and Dr. Belmeur Daily Repair Fresh Cleansing Water to complete the acne-fighting series. For people with acne, don’t forget that it is important to be comfortable in your own skin no matter what and if you find a product that works, you should stick to it and use it religiously. My skin is more balanced now and although the acne scars still remain, the number of breakouts is greatly reduced. I am trying my best to reduce the skin picking too so that the pesky acne scars will be gone sooner! Wish me luck!
