[Guest Post] Flowers Around The House - Are There Actual Health Benefits? (ft. Flower Chimp)

I'm just gonna come out and say it - I love flowers. Yes, I'm a girly girl like that but I believe my love for flowers have grown even more ever since I've started blogging and noticed the beauty of using flowers in photographs. I try to get fresh flowers as often as I can if they're not too expensive. Recently, I also found out that having fresh flowers around the house can also have benefits on your health! Having flowers around the house can make any space look bright, cheery and put-together. But are there actually any physical or mental health benefits to having flowers around?

Well, it turns out there is! Think about it, what would your reaction be when receiving a bouquet of flowers? It automatically puts a smile on your face. And aside from the great feeling you get knowing that someone cares about you and has taken the time to send you flowers, there is science proving that flowers have a positive effect on people!

Flowers trigger two of our strongest senses – sight and smell. Floral scents are shown to put people in a good mood and make them feel less anxious. And while green spaces and regular plants are meant to make you feel less stress, bouquets of flowers go one step further on the happiness scale. People will think of happy events like birthdays, anniversaries or graduations when they see a bouquet of flowers. Blooms also represent our human desire to connect with nature and the outdoors. So having flowers around the house will definitely put a smile on your face!

And it’s not just a mental improvement that occurs, there can be also be a physical one. When you visit someone in the hospital, why is it commonplace to bring that person flowers? Studies show that patients whose hospital rooms have been brightened with flowers actually need less post-operative pain medication, have lower blood pressure, and were more cheerful and less tired than patients who didn’t have flowers in their rooms! That’s a pretty incredible reason to send anyone some flowers.

If you’re ready to send that special person a bouquet (or order some for yourself to brighten up your office or home), it’s super simple! Head over to Flower Chimp and start ordering right away. They have a great selection and have flowers of only local Malaysian florists!

But don’t know what type of flowers or bouquet to order? Well here’s a handy guide. If you want a more relaxed vibe, go with bright but less saturated colours. You should also choose a bouquet that has colours which are very close to each other, giving a calming and soothing effect. Plus, choose curvy flowers to really emote a feeling of relaxation.

If you want to do just the opposite and are looking for something to be more energising and cheery, make sure to go with bold saturated colours. And the flowers in the bouquet should be of opposite colours to really make an impact!

And if you’re the one receiving the flowers, make sure to get the most out of them by placing them in strategic spots around the house. High traffic rooms like kitchens and bathrooms are good idea (plus it’ll smell great!). Or you can try keeping them next to your bed so when you wake up in the morning the first thing you see are fresh flowers! That’ll give you a good start to the day and have you hopping out of bed.

It’s so important for our well-being to relax and connect with nature. But in today’s computer-centric world it can be hard to find the time or energy to do so. Having flowers around the house or office is a simple and easy way to bring a little bit of nature indoors and make us all a little more chilled out, connected with the world and happy!
