Eats & Treats: Ink 'N' Water

I'm so happy to be introducing another cafe in JB for you guys! For the past few months, I've been so tied up with work that I hardly have the time to do some cafe-hopping, something I really love. But now that I'm currently freelancing, I do have more time to myself and it's about time that I share the love and hopefully useful information with you guys on places to get your coffee fix/ Instagram-worthy shots! One of the latest cafes that I've been to is Ink N Water - pretty cool name, huh?

Eats & Treats: Union Fashion Bar (UFB)

It's been awhile since my last food review, and boy, do I have a treat for you today! It's not often that I get SO stuffed from eating but because of the very generous and enthusiastic boss of Union Fashion Bar, I got to sample all the top 20 food (yes, 20!) from their extensive menu and I'm here to break it down to you! This photo only shows a portion of the food we sampled that day, so you could imagine how happy our tummies were at the end of the meal.

Eats & Treats: Dream Cafe

In a blink of an eye, half a year has gone by. I had all these great things planned for the year but after 6 months, I'm still trying to get my life in order. Talk about not progressing -.- Anyway, just to take away some negativity, let's talk a little about dreams.

Everyone of us has dreams. Be it big or small, a dream is the passion you're living with your eyes open. I still can't say for sure what my dream in life is, but I know everyday I'm doing something to achieve it and make my life, and that of those around me, better. Different people have different dreams, just like in the case of Chef Patrick Loh who decided to pursue his dream and start up Dream Cafe at Taman Mount Austin.

Eats & Treats: Passionfood Cafe and Bakery

Haven't done a food review in awhile now, I'm excited to be back on track! I've also have not been cafe-hoppping in awhile so this was really a fun review for me to be with my girls again. Thank you Ler and Passionfood Cafe and Bakery for inviting us to try out Passionfood's new menu!

Passionfood Cafe & Bakery serves French fusion cuisine, pastries and cakes. It's hard to miss the restaurant as you pass by Jalan Perang, Pelangi as there is a bright fuschia pink signboard that will catch your eye. All the food are served with homemade sauces, with no MSG added. Their dessert are all made in-house and not oursourced. And I guess this is why they are called Passionfood - the owner cooks passionately from the heart, hence the motto, "Made with passion".

Uptown Cafe Video Shoot with Infinete Loop Media

STOP! If you haven't watched this video, I strongly recommend that you click HERE to watch it now! If you have.. Well, here's just a little BTS experience from my first ever video-shooting experience :)

Being the narcissistic person that I am, let's start off with my OOTD? What I wore:
Shigoto top from Twenty3
Floral skirt from Sungei Wang Plaza
Mary-Jane heels from Happy2u
Watch from Kate Spade, Shopbop
Wearing: miacare CONFiDENCE Contact Lenses

It's been a week since the release of the video and I know I'm slow for only blogging about it now oops. But anyway, better late than never right?

Uptown Cafe is a beautiful cafe situated at Taman Sutera Utama. It might be easy to give it a miss when you drive past as it's just a small shop (from the outside) but just look out for the brightly lit signboard. It's located the same row as Bob's Kitchen!

Uptown Cafe JB is an office & residential concept cafe that lets you enjoy your time there without any disturbance. There is even fax and photocopier services for freelancers to work while they enjoy their food and coffee at the cafe. How interesting is that? Just like the video, Uptown Cafe hopes to be there for all these moments so that you feel right at home.

I forgot to take a photo of the main entrance but this is the downstairs dining area and it's quite spacious and classy! Don't be fooled by the tiny entrance, the shop is huge inside, with two floors!

I assume there'll be live bands playing here on weekends :D

This is the upstairs dining section. It's just as spacious and has more comfy, cushioned sofas. Seems like a good place to enjoy high tea!

I love this view the most! So colourful!

We went upstairs to explore the cafe and went around taking photos haha. This is Princess acting cool :p

The crew from Infinete Loop hard at work to shoot the food first, before shooting our individual scenes.

FYI, Infinete Loop Media is based in Iskandar, JB and is well-known for helping businesses convert their ideas, products & services into engaging marketing videos by inviting local YouTubers, Instagrammers and Bloggers to join them in the process. After working with them, I find that the team is not only professional, but extremely friendly and kind as well as they are concerned about the casts' needs & well-being, even if the shoot is only for a few short hours.

Just some of the food and drinks from Uptown Cafe that were used in the shoot. Confession: They were all gobbled up by the cast after that hahaha. Too bad the food got cold after the shoot. I am so going back again to try the food and cakes!

Ahem.. My scene was the second one to be shot so I had Ler and Mr Ang help me snap some behind-the-scene photos. Ken said we did pretty good seeing as only 2 or 3 shots were needed to get our scene perfected hehe. We were all divided into groups and shot at different times. First, the family scene starring the PIC Ken and his family, then our scene which was corporate, then the couple scene. Lerler and her bf Mr Ang were the main characters but they don't really appear till the end of the video.

That's my "client", Leon. Initially, I wanted to do the "friends" scene with my friends but because I brought a blazer, I ended up doing the corporate scene. Still fine with me!

In case anyone was wondering, the reason why my scene looked kinda awkward was because it was meant to be that way. Leon had to pretend to be over-enthusiastic and shake my hand hard and I was supposed to look uncomfortable haha. The point was to add some humour to the video but I guess you couldn't really get it as the scene moved too fast.. Oh, wells!

Oops, glutton caught on camera. Guilty as charged.. I was hungry ok! There was a short scene where the videographer shot me pretending to "eat" a french fry, did you notice it in the vid? XD
P.S: That's the lady boss in the background with her son!

Upstairs, we had the two guys who were the gamers and the girls were Ler's friends for the mingling scene. If you realised, the point of the video was to follow the protagonist Ler from the back and see what the cafe offers along the way. It's a breakthrough for Ler I guess, as she's usually so shy. She finally showed her face in the end! *proud*

Ok but I still can't show her face here haha.

The crew hard at work. Just look at how well-prepared and focused they are! See all that video-shooting gear? If you've ever wondered how it looks like behind the camera, well, here's a glimpse haha.

All in all, it was an eye-opening adventure seeing how a commercial comes to life. It's so fun! But of course we're just extras, it'll be more tiring if we were actual actresses. I have a newfound respect for people in the advertising industry now. A minute-long video like this takes 4 hours to shoot and not to mention, more hours put into editing. Kudos to the Infinete Loop team!

So lend them and us your support by clicking on the link and watching the commercial, will ya? It's all our first time acting on screen so do leave your comments what you think about the video and what can be improved. Thank you once again, Uptown Cafe and Infinete Loop for the chance to join in the fun!

UPDATE: This restaurant has ceased operations as of 2015. However, the review will remain on my blog as a form of reference for readers. Thank you.

Eats & Treats: B.E Cafe (Main Branch) @ Taman Molek [Part 2] [CLOSED]

UPDATE: This restaurant has ceased operations as of 2015. However, the review will remain on my blog as a form of reference for readers. The 2nd branch (found HERE) is still in operation. You ay visit the second branch for a similar menu as well. Thank you.

Hey, guys! I'm back with another food post from B.E Cafe! The last time, the Ma Cherie girls visited the newly opened branch and this time, the review will focus mainly on the main branch, also situated in Taman Molek. Click HERE if you haven't read my previous post!

It's hard to miss this brightly lit cafe, located directly below Molek Garden Hotel. It used to be operated by Just Want Cafe, in case you need any more references.

B.E Cafe's iconic logo of a coffee cup swirl.

For the smokers, there is an outdoor dining area as well.

The main items that will be reviewed this time round are the set lunch promotional items and some appetizers.

Baby Chino RM 7.90
Aren't they adorable? Can never stress enough how much I love the coffee art at B.E Cafe cos they're always surprising us with new designs! Check out my previous post on the full review!

Rose Latte RM 10.90 (H) | RM 12.90 (C)
Check out my previous post on the full review!

Hot Chocolate RM 12.90 (H) | RM 15.90 (C)
Taste-wise, there is a strong cocoa taste but is a bit too sweet when cooled. We girls still love this drink though. Previously I tried the citrus chocolate at the new branch, but I still preferred this as I don't really fancy orange-flavoured food or drinks.

Orange Juice RM 10.90
Freshly squeezed as you can still taste the pulp! There is also no sugar added so the sweetness and sourness level is just right.

Strawberry Smoothie RM 12.90
For me, this tastes just like ice-cream! Make sure you stir in the syrup well before drinking. Overall, the drink is quite sweet.

Smile!

Earl Grey Tea RM 9.90

Atlantic Salmon Salad RM 19.90
I'm a fan of anything with salmon so needless to say, I loved this! Freshly cut Atlantic salmon is lightly grilled and smoked with Applewood, before laying it down on a bed of fresh greens and then topped with lemon dill dressing. I personally like vinaigrette or dill dressing on my salad as I find that it brings out the freshness of the vegetables.

Creamy Pumpkin Soup RM 13.90
This isn't something you get to try everyday, as most restaurants specialises more in cream of mushroom soup. The fresh pumpkin is softened in chicken soup and then pureed to perfection. You can still taste some pumpkin bits and that's how you know it's really homemade! The soup is fragrant and not too sweet, so you don't feel too full after the end of it.

Classic Eggs Benedict RM 20.90
What's better than Eggs Benedict for breakfast? Eggs Benedict for lunch, tea and dinner! At B.E Cafe, breakfast food is served all-day! The perfectly poached egg is tender on the outside while the yolk still remains runny on the inside. The egg is then served with freshly baked English muffn and ham and then topped with buttery Hollandaise sauce. Best served hot.

See that yellow goodness flowing out :D

Mushroom Spaghetti Aglio Olio RM 16.50
Check out my previous post on the full review!

Wild Mushroom Rosti RM 18.90
I was surprised to find that B.E Cafe serves rosti. My favourite rosti can only be eaten at Marche Movenpick so I had high expectation of this! Rosti is basically Swiss-style sliced potato cooked with butter and served with sauteed button mushroom. For me, a good rosti shoule be crispy on the outside, firm when cut and yet still remains soft on the inside. This rosti is not salty enough to me so it is advised to accompany every bite with the sour cream and mushrooms. The rosti tends to fall apart easily when cut though. We all loved the mushrooms cooked with vinaigrette, a perfect accompaniment for the rosti!

Club Sandwich RM 15.90
One of B.E Cafe's signature dishes, the Club Sandwich. It is also known as the Clubhouse Sandwich. Ham, tomato, cheese, lettuce, cucumber and scrambled egg is served in between two slices of fresh daily baked and toasted bread. It is also served with fat fries to fill you up even more. I enjoyed this dish mainly because of the melted cheese and fluffy scrambled egg paired with crunchy bread.

Triple Royale Cake RM 9.90
The combination of chocolate cheese, creamy mascarpone cheese and soft chocolate cake makes this a sinful cake! Once you taste the richness and smoothness of the cake, you won't be able to stop!

Carrot Cake RM 9.90
The cake consists of shredded coconut and carrot fillings to give it an interesting texture. My overall impression of the cake is that it is very soft and crumbly. The cake itself is not too sweet but the cream cheese topping gives it that extra sweetness.

Granola RM 12.90
If you're looking for a healthier alternative for dessert, try the granola! It is similar to a parfait and has layers of dried cranberry, walnut and strawberry topped off with Greek yoghurt. The sourness of the Greek yoghurt is countered by the sweetness of the dried cranberry and strawberry while the granola bits gives it more crunch.

Vanilla Affogato RM 9.90
Check out my previous post on the full review!

Cold Brew RM 12.90
Ending the night with this cold brew which seems to be all the rage for coffee lovers now. The bitter, strong coffee taste is best drink to enjoy on a hot afternoon or an evening chilling with friends.

The Ma Cherie girls signing off!

Overall, my takeaway from the two food-tasting experiences is that while each branch serves almost the same food at the same standard, you can still enjoy certain differences. The main branch is more suitable for all-day dining and families while working adults and students might enjoy the new branch more as they serve quick and easy-to-go meals. Most of the food and drinks served are the same, maybe just presented or decorated differently. Both branches are unique in their own way and if you're a cafe-hopper, you should definitely check out B.E Cafe for kicks!
