Carinn x Invisalign: Using Lasers to Slim Down My Teeth

'Sup! Now, many of you may know that I did not do any extractions for my Invisalign treatment. So in order for my teeth to move, there needs to be space right? So instead of going through the pain of extraction, I'll be doing Interproximal Reduction (IPR) or slimming for my teeth instead. Previously, I mentioned how my orthodontist will use a metal strip to slim down my teeth during each visit but this time, he did something a little different...

This is a turbine machine or dental drill, which is basically a laser used to slice the teeth slightly and create spaces between the gaps! It also helps to shape the tooth structure and clean between the teeth. Pretty neat, huh?

As usual, I have to put on the protective eyewear while the laser is on. Oh don't worry, it doesn't hurt at all! The process is pretty fast, actually. Dr Matthew just has to lightly touch each tooth's sides about 10 times to slice it by less than 1mm, hence there is actually not a huge difference. Lasers are usually only used for the more complicated teeth like my four front teeth.

After that, Dr Matthew used the medical grade 'sandpaper' again to file between my teeth and reduce friction. Again, this doesn't hurt as well but it can be quite uncomfortable to feel the filing in between your teeth, you know? Thankfully, it's also a quick process and it's worth it if it helps my teeth to move!

I got to bring home half of all my aligner trays this time, along with a bunch of toothpaste hehe. Can't wait to be at the halfway mark, it'll be interesting to see how my teeth looks by then!
