Community: HiShop "Gimme Your Bra" Campaign

If the caption and this photo of this semi-naked man doesn't catch your attention to read this post, I don't know what will.

Just a quick announcement to share with you girls. Yes, girls (unless there are some guys who wear a bra too - I won't judge). I know we girls all wear bras, there's nothing to be shy about.. So I shall just jump straight into it.

As most of you know, October is commonly known as Breast Cancer-awareness month or PINK month. Having lost a friend to cancer, I am always supportive of sharing any cancer-related news in hopes of helping to raise more awareness. In conjunction with Breast Cancer month, HiShop is collaborating with Uplift Malaysia to run the "Gimme Your Bra" Campaign from 29th September to 7th November 2014. The name may sound a tad crude, but it is a worthy cause, nevertheless. The aim is to increase breast cancer awareness among the public apart from emphasizing on early detection of breast cancer. Erm, did you know that men CAN get breast cancer too? ...scared now?

A little introduction is in place, I suppose. The Uplift Project, founded by Nicole Lee in 2014 and the current acting National Coordinator of Uplift Malaysia, Cecilia, is actually a volunteer group founded in Australia that ships second-hand bras and sends them to underpriviledged women in the Asia-Pacific region. Please do check out their blog to find out the reasons why they are doing this. When you donate a second-hand bra, you are potentially helping these women from third-world countries to heal their wounds and even find a job. Sounds amazing?

This is where HiShop comes in. HiShop will collaborate with Uplift Malaysia to collect second-hand bras and donate them to these women in less-developed countries through verified NGOs. All you have to do is to send in your unused, preloved bras to the address below:

"Gimme Your Bra" Campaign
HiShop Malaysia
22-3 Jalan PJU 8/5G,
Damansara Perdana,
47820 Petaling Jaya,
Selangor, Malaysia.

Upon submitting your parcel, don't forget to include your email address as you will be given a RM20 cash voucher (with minimum purchase of RM99). For me, I don't really fancy the voucher but the main point of this is to not only recycle your old bras, but to help these women regain their dignity. It may sound silly, but who knows what the little thing you do can help them achieve?

If you're a blogger, don't forget to spread the word to your family, friends, colleagues, readers, etc! Blog about it, post it to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and hashtag #HiShopMY and #GimmeYourBra to share the news. HiShop Beauty Ambassadors, you'd be able to receive points for submitting your posts too.

To think there are people in this world who can't even afford this basic piece of clothing, isn't that sad? You'd be helping the environment too, aren't environmentalists always telling us to REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE? :) Ok so I shall try and find the time to recycle my old bras (which still look presentable and are usable haha).

Hope this post has inspired some of you to lend a helping hand too! Have a great day ahead and just remember to count your blessings :)
