Oops! Did you guys miss me after I've been away for a week? :p I'm sorry for not posting often! Anyway, wanna take a guess what's my secret? It's something pretty intimate and personally I feel it's one of the most "daring" things I've done :p Yes, even getting a Brazilian Wax done requires a fair bit of courage, and you know that! I've had a friend message me out of the blue one day to ask where you can get Brazilian waxing done in JB and I honestly did not know.. But thanks to my all-time fave beautician, they are now offering that very service, and many more!
It is advisable to get waxing done with a licensed aesthetician as it involves your sensitive areas after all. At Total Perfection Face & Body Spa, they have had many years of experience in women's health & beauty and with the new addition of their latest staff, they are now offering waxing services for almost every part of your body(!) You'll be asked to fill in a Waxing Consultation Form to understand your concerns better before proceeding. I've been to this salon for years, and I have tried out many treatments from them but this is the first time I'm trying out waxing service, and in JB too!
So, if you're like me, you'll probably have heard of Brazilian Wax and Bikini Wax. If you're wondering what's the difference between these two, here's some photos to illustrate. Basically, a bikini wax is when cleanup is done outside the lines of the bathing suit or underwear line. Depending on your preferences, sometimes a little hair is taken off the top or down the sides. For Brazilian wax, EVERYTHING (and I mean everything) goes off. You can even opt to have your hair 'shaped' differently! XD Just let your aesthetician know in advance if you'd like to have anything special done.
According to the Total Perfection team, the removal of body hair has become popular since 1945 and helps you to feel sexier, achieve fairer and smoother skin, less pubic hair lice (hence it's more hygienic) and get better exfoliation done. Not only females do waxing, guys can get waxed too! Total Perfection offers waxing for almost every part of your body - from your arms to legs to face to armpits to intimate areas, and more! It is advisable to do waxing instead of shaving with a blade because waxing prevents the growth of ingrown hair that can be unhygienic and makes the skin itch.
There are two types of wax to be used when getting waxed - scent wax and blue gel wax. For both wax, no powder is added so it doesn't stimulate your pores during waxing.
Scent wax is this off-yellow, cream coloured wax that kinda resembles cake batter to me XD It used on regular waxers as the added scents are not suitable for first-timers or people with sensitive skin. Non-woven waxing strips are used together with this wax and it's usually applied on areas like arms & legs.
Blue wax on the other hand, is more suitable for first timers as it helps to remove the thick dead skin layer/ cells and targets stubborn ingrown hair. The wax resembles boba before they melt, once it melts, it leaves a very pretty blue-green hue!
A series of 4 types of oils & gels are used to aid in the waxing process too and make the experience more painful. The colourful bottles are labelled with a number each to indicate the steps. Prior to waxing, Step 1 is a Lavendar Oil that contains minimal alcohol to be used for sanitizing. Step 2 is a Jasmine Oil that leaves behind a thin layer of oil to "cushion" the pain so that there is no direct contact between the wax and the skin (it can get pretty hot after all). Step 3 & 4 comes in after waxing is done. Step 3 is a Mint Gel used for calming down the stimulated area and reduces redness. Lastly, Step 4 which is a Moisturising Lotion, is applied to moisturise the freshly waxed area.
Before we begin, for hygiene purposes, the aesthetician will give you a pair of paper panties/thong to wear and some cotton swabs sprayed with Step 1 & 2 oils to clean yourself in the bathroom.
It's not really my first time getting a Brazilian wax done, but I haven't done it in a long time so the aesthetician, advised me to use the blue wax. A sensitivity test is done first whereby some blue wax is applied on the back of your hand to see if the waxer has any allergy towards the wax. For me, I'm neutral towards it so we're good to go!
Since waxing is an extremely delicate process that usually involves sensitive parts of your skin, I like how hygiene is the number 1 concern and that the aesthetician wears a mask and gloves to get the job done. The bed is also covered with a layer of paper for hygienic reasons. Obviously I can't show you the photos but for those of you who have not tried it, basically how waxing is done is similar to the spot test above - hot wax is applied onto the desired area and once it dries in a few seconds, the aesthetician rips off the dried wax strip in the opposite direction of hair growth in a swift yet gentle movement. She will use her hand to cover the freshly waxed area immediately to minimise pain and bleeding. And yes, because your pores are sensitive, there will be slight bleeding and some pain but it is overall bearable for me! This is why the pre- and post- steps involving the oils & gels are so important to keep your skin protected. FYI, the time between each wax varies according to the individual but she says it usually takes 3 weeks for the hair to grow back.
After the waxing treatment, you are encouraged to have a mask applied. I feel like there are masks available nowadays for every part of your body so yes, there's a mask specifically for your intimate area as well. XD This Apres Brazilian Epilation Masque (additional RM42) is a soothing and moisturising mask with trace elements derived through quantum technology and is to be used post-Brazilian waxing. It helps to repair newly-waxed skin, firm, whiten & brighten the skin. The ingredients are absorbed faster by open pores after waxing.
The mask sheet is essentially rolled in a tube and has to have an ampoule added before you can use it. It's extremely delicate, which is why only licensed aesthetician can purchase this. It is for one-time use only. This is how the mask for ladies look like once it's unravelled (it's shaped differently for men). The bigger part covers the pubic area and the aesthetician applied the mask for about 10 - 15 minutes, it felt pretty much like wearing an adult diaper XD While waiting, she also covered me with a blanket to keep warm.
Sooo.. What's my take on it? I feel totally pampered, even though I went in feeling shy and unsure at first but hey, the aesthetician might feel just as shy as you as well, so don't feel too bad about it. Total Perfection also recommends these Waxxxx after-care products to bring home to constantly keep your intimate area protected. She kept preaching about how every women should take care of themselves well, and I totally agree. This is just one little thing that you can do to keep yourself happy and healthy, so why not try it out? Not to mention, you'll feel super pleased at how smooth your skin feels after that :p The whole process took only about half an hour and it's only RM88 for first trial (NP: RM158) so if it can make you feel good, go ahead and try it!
